Bertucci’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta is a chain of italian restaurants known for serving up delicious homestyle italian cooking. Founded in Somerville, Massachusetts in 1981, the Bertucci’s brand is comprised of 58 restaurants across the east coast. I grew up visiting Bertuccis’ restaurants throughout my childhood, so I was especially excited to have the chance to work with the company on a project to design and build a brand new website.
I worked together with the team at Bertucci’s parent company, Earl Enterprises, to design, develop, and build a completely custom WordPress website for their brand and locations. Arguably one of the most ambitious undertakings of my career so far, this project allowed me the chance to oversee a complex website build from start to finish, working within the client’s existing brand strategy and design guidelines. I created custom PHP applications to fetch data from 3rd-party vendor APIs for rendering location-specific menus, integrated customer rewards program signup interfaces, on-site reservation booking, and more.
Projects that allow me to utilize a variety of skills and techniques for both visual design and backend development in unison are extremely valuable for me, particularly when it comes to building a website from scratch. My approach to design is centered around having the ability to address clients’ needs from top to bottom with custom solutions, and this project was a great example. Working both visually and technically allows me to recognize problems and identify solutions from a variety of different viewpoints.
